Effects of 8 Weeks Pilates for the Body Balance, Posture and Pain in Players of Tennis, Archery, and Athletics

Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Athletes were often showed the pain and body imbalance by the over-training for the improvement of performance. The purpose of this study was to compare the differences of body balance, posture, pain and 8 week pilates-mediated effects between tennis-archery, and athletics.

METHOD: The subjects were recruited by 41 male and female of athletes who divided into tennis(n=15), archery(n=10), and athletics(n=16). They are 16-18 years old. Piltes program performed 8 weeks with 2 hours per day and 3 days per week. The subjects were tested in body stability, sensorimotor control ability, and subjective pain scale (VAS) prior to and following to piltes program. SPSS 18.0 Statistics Program was used to two-way ANOVA with repeated measures
RESULT: Athletics group mainly showed the pain of lower body, but tennis and archery group showed the pain of upper body. Body balance, stability, and sensorimotor skills in tennis and archery group showed low tendency than athletics group. Both groups showed significant changes of pain and body balance after 8 week pilates program.

CONCLUSION: Regional pain of athletes showed the preference following to main body movement part. Pilates program can lead to the positive effects on pain and body balance-related variables.
